Bradford City of Culture 2025

This year we have been taking part in different initiatives to celebrate Bradford 2025, City of Culture. This week we teamed up with other primary schools in the area and joined Bradford City of Culture 25 for 25 Spring Clean. We were kindly gifted an exclusive package of 10 children’s litter pickers and 10 children’s tabards with Bradford’s City of Culture logo, and bags to help with the clean-up. Lots of our children had time away from their classrooms to go pick up litter across Bingley and help improve the environment in our local area. The children loved taking part and even got some compliments from people in the local community. We are excited to have the tools to be able to do this more often as part of our commitment to the community. We will update our ‘news articles’ on the website with more photographs, so keep your eyes peeled.

Early Years

Early Years have been looking at how food is grown on farms and finding out about different farm vehicles. We made pictures of tractors using 2d shapes.

Year 1

Year 1 have been writing their non-chronological reports this week, thinking about the structure and technical vocabulary.

Year 2

Year 2 have been learning the column method for addition involving regrouping.

Year 3

Year 3’s pneumatic toys are nearly finished!

Year 4

Year 4 have been working hard on sewing their book covers ready for our DT exhibition on Tuesday. They are very proud of their work.

Year 5

During parent’s evening I mentioned our Whole Class Reading sessions which take place every morning.  We read and study a text for a number of weeks which allows us to focus closely on characters, settings, writing and comprehension skills.  At the moment, we are reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce which the children are really enjoying.

Year 6

Some of our Year 6 Student Council members met with Mrs Gunning this week to talk about improvements for our school. There were some brilliant ideas and we are looking forward to implementing some of them in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled for an update!

Important learning information

We use a range of Learning Apps in school, which can also be accessed at home. Please use the links below to practice key skills.

Times Table Rockstars is an award-winning maths learning platform where children can practice their times tables like a rock star! Certificates can be achieved every Thursday for the children who have made the most progress in terms of the biggest increase in accuracy that week. We also run in school competitions.

Accelerated Reader will allow children to read a book and then take an online quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of the text, and receive immediate feedback. Students respond to regular feedback and are motivated to improve their reading skills.
